Who we are…

The Colonel William Preston Chapter, NSDAR, is made up of a delightful and diverse group of women. We are blessed with multi-generational members, including retirees, professional women, Junior members (those under the age of 35), and community volunteers who all share their love of our country.

Organized in 1923, the Colonel William Preston Chapter, NSDAR, has approximately 85 members. Daughters support veterans at the local Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center in Salem by donating useful items and hosting an annual party for residents. Our chapter conducts a special wreath laying ceremony in our community preceding the Veterans Day parade each year. Local school students benefit from annually participating in NSDAR patriotic essays, fine arts contests, and Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) awards. Some are also recognized as Junior American Citizens and by the DAR Good Citizens Award. We support Crossnore School and other DAR sponsored schools through donations. Families of troops are supported through donations of coupons and phone cards.

We had a fabulous time celebrating our chapter’s 100th anniversary and welcome you to learn more about our chapter and our community activities.
